I'm loking at a D5 model XC I've read a few threads re the timing of the change on D5's - scheduled for 90k, but some have suggested should do at 60k? Any thoughts? Also - ballpark costs? Mine was at 79k at that time - the change is scheduled at 96k - not sure if the is the same. But better safe than sorry - especially as there was a bit of concern raised by Clan about Ford tensioners failing early in the models I think.
I think a with 50k should have a good bit of life left in it yet. Had mine done at an independent at 82k miles on an 04 with both timing and auxiliary belts done, all tensioners, alternator pulley and idler pulleys yes, paranoid I know! Done early as the alternator pulley was squeaking and on examination both belts were showing some cracking on their surface. Seemed reasonable.
Have the same MY car, belt change is K miles or 10 years. Volvo don't advise earlier fitment as belt is bullet proof and the tensioners are all fixed by However, I run a warranty and plan to have the job done at 6 years old should be around 80k miles by then.
Another chap on here had his done at an Indy and then the engine blew. So I will have it done at Volvo and if the new belt slips or comes off - Volvo will pay for everything.
I do have a complete Volvo service history. If I go ahead with the purchase, I'll see how we go. Can I ask how much you are paying for 07 reg XC90 and what specs? I am also looking for one! Not sure I am very representative I bought privately from a 'friend' leaving for the USA. Good luck. Thanks Gary 07 black 2. Presume you mean 2.
Sounds reasonable, given the prices of others. Good point Gary Austin These things are nae cheap to run are they! Where are they cutting the corners?
Used Volvo XC60 buying guide: 2008-2016 (Mk1)
The genuine parts alone are that kind of price. Why do you suggest the Aux belt tensioner and idler need to be changed? Because that is when they are due to be changedthe same time as the cambeltdidnt the "specialist" tell you this?
THESE are the parts which can fail and wrap around the cambelt and ruin the engineThe actual cambelt itself never breaksit gets thrown off for one reason or another to do with Aux idler wheels failing. They do give plenty of warning by making noises however.
Yep D5 S! Not sure why you have the attitude towards me. I never spoke to a "specialist", so why would they tell me? As you point out the aux pulley gives you plenty of notice did on my V70 T5and how does the aux belt get to the cam belt on the basis the cam cover etc protect it? Can you also explain why you have a problem with any bulb that isn't sold by the main Volvo dealer as you have expressed in other posts?
I figured at 96k miles, based on what I've heard here, do the lot. I've a year Volvo warranty and didn't want to compromise that if at all possible.Recently Asked Questions Can I transfer a motorcycle reg plate onto a car? Bought a very nice V70 D5 se in August on the clock but hey I've had 3 Volvos before with never a problem they go forever.
Cambelt due but I'll be careful before my holiday and get all the belts changed well before. Awaiting independant Engineer to try and find out who's fault it is. Ever seen a grown man cry!! Another timing belt disaster not caused by the timing belt. That's at the less likely end of the fault spectrum. What rotten luck. Thought it was a change at 90, for belts Clan would know. Since posting have found the following post maybe worth a looking at. The AC belt is a stretch belt and has a relatively short life.
This is not the first time I have heard of this failure with the ac belt on this engine. The most common reason I think is down to non Volvo servicing or shall we say lack of knowledge servicing. If the car has full Volvo history then you have been very unlucky. Maybe what should be said regarding volvos and all modern cars that they USED to go forever, the quality is no longer there, another case of trading on past glory, try looking at modern Audi and vw, not good Tho that's the way everything is now, everything is built to a price with a design life.
My mate has a new ford focus with the 1 litre eco boost engine. The cam belt runs inside the engine a bit like a timing chain. No service interval for the belt, he was told by the dealer it lasts the life of the engine or the engine lasts the life of the belt. Not good Garages normally give a 3 month warranty on used cars. Though I'm struggling with your maths, bought on k miles and miles later is on k miles? Thanks all I should have said miles after all the belts were replaced.
My holiday btw was taken in my Wife's 16 year old Honda civic No problems but a bit of a squeeze three of us and the Dog. Who did the work? Volvo or another garage? My local garage which I've used for about 15 years always found them excelent used them to change the belts as they were going to do a Cam belt change on my Wife's Honda about the same time.
They say it's due to the aircon pulley developing a fault as does an engine rebuild garage up the road but I've arranged for an inspection and report from an independant engineer one that Solicitors use. The really annoying point is the rest of the car is immaculate. Can't wait till it's resolved then I can get some sleep!
I have never herd of the ac compressor causing any faults it self. I would of expected some warning before it went such as bearing noises Ect. The only other explanation could be the garage fitted a standard ribbed belt and not a specialised stretch belt or an inferior quality belt. Either way I hope you get it sorted out. The garage were going to use good quality belts from another firm but managed to get a Volvo Genuine parts kit and showed me the unopen boxes before they started the job.
Got to say of all the things I thought might go wrong I never expected the aircon Subject to Engineers report In fact I went to the bother of having all the belts, tensions and pulleys changed to avoid it.May 29, by: Alexandra M. This guide will help you trough this process, for the 1.
